Resources for Parents
PBS Inclusive Communities
Summer 2013 Class Resource List:
Parent to Parent
www.p2pusa.org
This website is extremely valuable for parents who are seeking emotional support in more of an individual setting. This website provides a national directory of programs and allows parents to get an overview of the resources that are offered by different state programs. This website can help educators help parents by suggesting different resources to help them get an understanding and discuss their experiences with another parent who has had similar experiences.
Technical Assistance ALLIANCE for Parent Centers (ALLIANCE)
www.taalliance.org
This website is vital for parents who are looking for technical assistance for Parent Training Information Centers (PTIs) and Community Parent Resource Centers (CPRCs). This website allows parents to locate PTIs in each state and if there are any CPRCs in the community. Educators can use this tool to help parents find the different types of informational support that they might be seeking.
Social Security Administration
www.ssa.gov
This website can be necessary when working with families with a lower socioeconomic status because teachers can provide the family with the knowledge and tools on how the financial assistance system works. Teachers cannot expect families to have a background of understanding how to receive financial assistance, and in some families assistance might be needed in order for things to be carried out. By providing families with this information, they can fill out the needed eligibility paperwork to receive financial assistance.
